Update on Compounded Sterile Preparations:

On behalf of Chiron Compounding Pharmacy, we would like to take the opportunity to update clinics and clients on the upcoming regulatory changes surrounding compounded sterile preparations. The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) as well as the Ontario College of Pharmacists has updated the requirements to compound sterile medications. These new regulations take effect on January 1st, 2019.

The team at Chiron has been working endlessly to continue to meet all of your compounding needs. This includes; increased training of personnel, facility upgrades and increased testing of products to ensure the highest quality of medications for patients.  The cost to implement all of these changes is significant.

Effective January 1st, 2019 there will be changes to beyond use dates and sterility fees.

History of honey use in wound care:

Honey has been used in wound healing for centuries. Evidence for its’ wide range of medicinal use has been found in ancient writings such as the Edwin Smith Papyrus in the 17th century BC. Honey was used during World War I and II. Only in the last decade have microbiologists begun to understand the uniqueness of the Leptospermum species.
